Who We Are

NEFOC Land Trust is a community-led land justice organization dedicated to rematriating land and restoring relationships between people and the places they have cared for across generations. We believe land is not a commodity but a living relative, and our work is rooted in care, reciprocity, and collective power.

We exist to return land to those who have been systematically separated from it, ensuring long-term stewardship outside of capitalist, colonial, and extractive systems. Through deep relationship-building, we support the regeneration of land-based lifeways, community governance, and cooperative stewardship models that honor ancestral responsibilities and future generations.

Our Work

Inspired by the interconnectedness of natural systems—like the mycelial networks that sustain forests—we take a relational approach to land justice. Our work centers:

  • Land Rematriation & Stewardship – Returning land to those with deep-rooted ties and ensuring long-term community stewardship.

  • Community-Led Land Projects – Collaborating with land stewards and grassroots organizations to develop collective land governance rooted in cultural and ecological knowledge.

  • Policy & Advocacy – Advancing land return, reparations, and sovereignty through legal, financial, and structural interventions that shift land and resources back to communities.

  • Climate & Ecological Justice – Honoring ancestral land care practices that address the climate crisis through reciprocal, regenerative stewardship.

Our Commitments

Our work is guided by the following principles:

  • Land as Kin – We reject the idea of land as property. Instead, we recognize land as a living relative and commit to relationships of care, responsibility, and reciprocity.

  • Intergenerational Stewardship – We build pathways for communities to reclaim, protect, and care for land across generations.

  • Right Relationship – We center reciprocity, consent, and responsibility in all of our land-based relationships, ensuring non-extractive, community-driven approaches.

  • Liberation Through Action – We envision and build futures where land is collectively held and governed by those with deep ancestral ties to it.

  • Mutual Support & Accountability – We practice community-driven governance and conflict transformation that sustains long-term land stewardship.

  • Regenerative Land Care – Our stewardship practices are informed by traditional ecological knowledge, addressing the climate crisis through reciprocal caretaking practices.

Join the Movement

Land justice requires all of us. Whether through solidarity, land return, resource sharing, or direct involvement in our projects, we welcome those committed to collective liberation and ecological repair. Together, we are reclaiming land, reconnecting with our plant and animal relatives, and restoring a just future for the generations to come.
