Regenerating Land. Transforming Communities.

Land Projects

WILDSEED (Millerton, NY)

WILDSEED is a sanctuary in New York’s Mid-Hudson Valley, where BIPOC leadership fosters community healing, land connection, and ecological balance. Established as a reparative gift in 2015, it’s a space for growing food, medicine, and relationships through sustainable, justice-driven economies. From agro-ecological farming to transformative justice initiatives and youth programs, WILDSEED blends healing and skill-building for collective resilience. In partnership with NEFOC, the land is transitioning into a trust, preserving it for future generations and strengthening a vision of shared responsibility, solidarity, and liberation.

New Suns Community Center (North Thetford, VT)

Welcome to New Suns! Nestled in North Thetford, Vermont, this vibrant community center transforms a historic church into a sanctuary for BIPOC connection and resilience. Designed as an inclusive space for gathering, learning, and thriving, New Suns offers resources from a tool library to a future community ceramics studio. Rooted in food sovereignty, climate resilience, and justice, it’s a hub for healing and connection in rural Vermont. Join us in shaping a future of equity and togetherness – here, everyone belongs.

Ubuntu Farm (Buffalo, NY)

Ubuntu Farm, formerly Common Roots Farm, is an urban sanctuary in Buffalo's Broadway Fillmore district, addressing food apartheid with community-driven food sovereignty. Established in 2012, this farm produces fruits, vegetables, and herbs using sustainable, low-till practices. Now in transition, the new farmer is eager to invest in the cooperative food system of Buffalo’s East Side, fostering regenerative farming, climate resilience, and community empowerment. With support from NEFOC, Providence Farm Collective, and Buffalo Go Green, Ubuntu Farm is reclaiming access to food, land, and justice for Buffalo’s communities of color.

Reparations, ReMATRIATION, & Reconciliation Map

The food system was built on the stolen land and stolen labor of Indigenous, Black, Latinx, Asian, and people of color. Members of the Northeast Farmers of Color Network are claiming our sovereignty and calling for the redistribution of wealth, and reparations of land and resources so that we can begin to advance meaningful reconciliation, grow nourishing food, steward our beloved homelands once again, and reclaim our health and well-being. We took over stewardship of the Reparations Map from our sister organization, Soul Fire Farm Institute, in 2019 and are building a more creative, consistent, and impactful map that honors the legacy of formerly enslaved people, Indigenous people dispossessed of their homelands, and diaspora who steward these lands with the same care and intention as their original homelands. La Beca Braiding Seeds Fellowship

The La Beca Braiding Seeds Fellowship, coordinated by NEFOC Land Trust, is a Spanish-first adaptation of Soul Fire Farm’s Braiding Seeds Fellowship, honoring ancestors who braided seeds into their hair during the transatlantic slave trade, believing future generations would inherit and plant them. This 18-month fellowship supports Black, Indigenous, and marginalized Spanish-speaking farmers in the Northeast and Southeast U.S., emphasizing regions of historical significance. Fellows receive a $50,000 stipend, professional development, mentorship, and business planning resources, dedicating over 20 weekly hours to farming. La Beca fosters regenerative practices and strengthens Black agrarian traditions and Indigenous sovereignty. Applications for the 2024–25 cohort ran from May to July 2024. Applications for the 2025 fellowship are now closed.

Black Farmers Learn

The Black Farmers Learn educational subsidy will pay tuition or registration fees of up to $500 for Black farmers or land stewards who wish to expand their knowledge or skills via a self-identified training program. This program honors education from structured sources available to the public; this includes schools, farming institutions, land or agricultural collectives, and conferences or training that offer to deepen skills and increase farming capacity. As these members remain in our community, the knowledge gained will impact others, offering the benefits exponentially. Apply during the first week of every month!

On The Way: A Helping Tour

“On the Way,” a video-documented helping tour, will build the Black agricultural community and provide education around and implementation of sustainable, regenerative farming practices among Black farmers and aspiring farmers in the northeast region of the United States. This tour will pool the operational needs of Black farms with the knowledge base and educational opportunities of Black farmers, bringing farmers together for skillshares that create and deepen relationships among Black farmers;  develop channels for spreading sustainable and regenerative practices; and increase viability for Black farms. Check out their Instagram to follow the project and to see the release of the video of the tour!

We The Land!

The We The Land! Conference, held in August 2024 at Smith College and hosted by NEFOC’s Relationships and Reciprocity Program, brought together over 300 intergenerational participants from across Turtle Island. This landmark gathering was NEFOC’s first in-person event since 2019 and a vibrant space for Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian, SWANA, and POC land stewards and earth workers. Participants engaged in workshops on apiculture, silvopasture, poetry, and radical self-care; took part in strategy labs for real-time BIPOC organizing; and found opportunities for healing, joy, and celebration. With support from NEFOC’s Advisory Council, the conference honored ancestral dreams for regenerative farming, food sovereignty, and cultural preservation, marking a profound step in advancing land tenure for BIPOC communities. Stay tuned for as we synthesize and integrate the knowledge gained from this concentrated time of community organizing and planning for the 2026 conference!
